Keely Hodgkinson finished her two-lap season with a triumph at the women-only Athlos event in New York on Friday night.

{The current Olympic gold medallist, who earned third place at the global championships last month, dominated an impressive win in 1:56.53 in what was only her sixth race in a year affected by a hamstring injury.

Compatriot and global silver winner Georgia Bell took the runner-up spot once more in 1:58.33, while the athlete from St Vincent Shafiqua Maloney (1:58.57) secured third place.

"I've barely raced this season so it was likely easier for me to compete and want to give it something," stated the 23-year-old.

"The environment at the event is crazy so it was really, really fun."

The women-only event filled Icahn Stadium in its second year, introducing a festive vibe to conventional athletics, with musical performances and special crowns replacing standard medals.

The 23-times tennis major winner Serena W., who is wed to the founder of Athlos Alexis Ohanian, was present to award the victors with their crowns.

Last year's winners received sixty thousand dollars (£44,603) - among the biggest cash prizes in track and field.

The event also attracted some of the sport's biggest names, as Kenya's triple Olympic champion and global record breaker Faith K. won the mile, finishing in four hours 17.78 minutes.

American Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze medallist from the recent Paris Games, secured the 100m and 200m double.
