Heartbroken HK Locals Stunned as Major Fire Destroys Housing Buildings

University student a local student was among the countless people drawn to the scene of a tragic inferno that ravaged large portions of the eight-building housing complex in the city's Tai Po area.

At least over three dozen people have lost their lives in yesterday's catastrophic fire currently, with hundreds still missing, leading to expectations that this figure will likely rise.

"We're facing a catastrophe," Thomas commented about the fire, mentioning that he had observed a body being transported from the scene.

In excess of a one thousand further residents were required to evacuate the complex as the fire expanded, with many making their way to temporary shelters that have been organized to accommodate them.

The blaze is slowly being controlled, but authorities indicate they do not know when it will be entirely eliminated.

Fire could be seen coming from individual units as numerous onlookers watched in silence.

"I feel devastated. We have so many friends and acquaintances. I have no idea what is occurring anymore. Observe, all the homes are just on fire. I am unsure what to do. I hope the government can support us to find stability after this."

An woman stated that her acquaintances dwell inside the building and she was waiting to learn if they succeeded to escape.

Harry Cheung, who has dwelled in the second building of the Wang Fuk Court for over four decades years, recalled listening to "a tremendous explosion" and observing blaze break out in a adjacent building.

"I quickly went to my apartment to gather my belongings," the 66-year-old inhabitant stated.

"I don't even know how I personally at this moment. I'm just considering about where I'm going to stay tonight because I probably cannot go back home."

While the cause of the fire that consumed the multiple high-rise buildings remains unidentified, the blaze are thought to have rapidly expanded through the bamboo scaffolding that enveloped the structures, which were experiencing improvements.

Several people have expressed outrage that such a large-scale blaze could have taken place and questioned the reaction.

"In cases where there's a wildfire, they will employ aircraft and drop fire retardant, but why is there not any response and how can they allow further buildings burning?" asked one more resident of Wang Fuk Court.

"The community is so proximate to the fire station and we believed the inferno could be put out soon, but currently the flames has advanced. I'm so disheartened," she continued.

She noted that she had been provided no instructions from the government on where to obtain assistance.

Several Tai Po community members had provided essentials to the victims - including dozens of warm layers and heat packs.

Upon questioning about their feelings regarding the blaze, residents voiced that "authorities is ineffective" and that they were "immensely devastated".

"We desire not to see any further casualties," said an individual.

An elderly lady who resides in one of the impacted blocks stated she was away when the incident ignited but that she is anxious about her residence because it is without coverage.

"I'm extremely troubled that I have nowhere to return to now," she concluded.
