Alphabet Plans Investment of $15bn to Establish AI Data Hub in India

Data Hub Facility
India is a key destination for data centres owing to its low data costs and quickly expanding digital audience.

The parent firm of Google the Alphabet conglomerate is set to invest fifteen billion dollars to establish an AI computing facility in the state of Andhra Pradesh in southern India.

The facility, to be established in the harbor town of the city of Visakhapatnam, is going to be a part of the worldwide network of Google of AI centres located in twelve different countries.

"It's the largest AI hub that we are committing funds to anywhere in the world, outside of the US," the CEO of Google Cloud announced at an conference in the capital city of Delhi this Tuesday, mentioning that the investment will be spread throughout the next half-decade.

This declaration occurs when US President Donald Trump has been encouraging American companies to give priority to domestic investment.

India's Increasing Significance in Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure

The nation has emerged as a prime location for artificial intelligence facilities. The country's low data costs and quickly expanding online population have made it a hub for expansion of cloud and artificial intelligence for tech giants.

"The facility will introduce our cutting-edge technology to companies and individuals in the country, speeding up AI development and driving growth across the country," commented Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet.

Specifics of the Project

A definitive arrangement to finalise the initiative will be signed soon, local government officials confirmed.

"It is a major step forward for the digital progression of our state, technological innovation, and global standing," remarked the minister for technology Nara Lokesh, the technology minister.

The venture will merge AI and cloud systems with green energy infrastructure and an broader fiber-optic system.

Andhra Pradesh's Data Center Vision

The venture is part of the Andhra Pradesh government's blueprint to establish 6GW of computing facility capacity by 2029.

Data centres are actual buildings that house the computing and networking equipment that companies use to collect, process, store, and distribute data.

They feature servers, storage systems and networking hardware like network routers and security firewalls, combined with the required energy and climate management infrastructure to operate them.

Funding Benefits

Across Andhra Pradesh, the local administration has been providing discounted land and energy to entice worldwide funders.

Sector Expansion

The nation's data center sector has grown rapidly in the recent half-decade, exceeding the one gigawatt capacity threshold in 2024 and nearly tripling its 2019 level.
